The Hermitage

Palace Square The State Hermitage gained it's title in the middle of the 18th Century when the Winter Palace, home of Russian Emporers from 1763 to 1917, was erected on the Neva River. The Winter Palace is one of 5 buildings that make up the State Hermitage Museum. Catherine ll ordered the construction of the new building to house her rapidly expanding art collection. Here are a few pictures.
